1967 Seiko 6217-7010 Automatic “World Time”
1967 Seiko 6217-7010 Automatic “World Time”
After its introduction in 1964, Seiko’s World Time needed little in the way of improvement, but the engineers at Seiko wasted little time in addressing needs and set to work making refinements for what would become the 6217-7000’s direct successor... the 6217-7010. It was released in 1967, and proved that Seiko could not only recapture the classic beauty of the original, but add several points of improvement in tactile design. The 7010 was fitted with a screw down case back rather than a “snap on” style. And, as well as luminous windows in the hands, the dial was given luminous plots just inside the markers for each hour. The crown had also been replaced with a slightly recessed style that was better protected, and less prone to mishaps. The larger lugs allowed for a slightly cleaner integration, and overall the layout and architecture was sleeker than its predecessor. This example from February of 1967 is phenomenal. The silver linen dial is perfect, and free of any blemishes. The 24 hour track in black and blue is crisp and free of fading or chipping, and the “cities of the world” bezel is near perfect and can be rotated smoothly in either direction via the crown. Aside from a replacement crystal, it’s completely original and a collector’s dream. Post service it’s keeping near perfect time, and we’ve paired it with a soft khaki suede that adds subtle contrast and comfort on the wrist. A rare treat, this variant was in production for a very short time and for the “World Time” collector, it’s often the missing piece. Don’t miss this opportunity to add it to your own lineup.
