1968 JDM Seiko 4006-7010 Bell-Matic 27j Automatic Day/Date

$0.00

The first Bell-Matics were released to the public in 1966, and were at that time the very first automatic wrist alarm watches with a central rotor. Seiko continued production of the line for another 12 years with a wide array of styles ranging from colorful casuals, to refined classics. This 7010 from August of ‘69 has a polished and sophisticated layout, and it features the 27 jewel variant of Seiko’s 4006 calibre. Import tariffs on luxury watches (those over 21 jewels) made them too expensive to offer to the North American market, so acquiring one can be a bit of a challenge, but well worth the effort. The case has crisp lines, pleasing angles, and a low profile bezel. It’s covered in flat polished planes that meet at sharp corners to create an almost faceted appearance in reaction to light. The dial is a rich silvery white sunburst with a lacquered finish that's complemented by polished sword style hands and polished markers with black inlay. Framing the dial is a dropped minute chapter and a thin satin alarm cursor ring with a subtle black indicator. The bell has a bright, crisp ring that is sure to get your attention. The case is unpolished, and it’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal. Post service it’s keeping near perfect time, and the alarm functions are smooth and precisely aligned. We’ve paired it with a soft gray suede with silver stitching for a clean and classic finish that’s sure to turn a few heads.
