We’re always on the lookout for great vintage affordables, and this time-only “field” model is a bargain barebones tool watch with pounds of character and a military aesthetic. The dial, which was once white, has developed a soft khaki patina beneath the lacquer finish that exhibits an almost gradient tone from the center outward. With no date aperture, it offers an extremely clean aesthetic that's only heightened by the stenciled luminous Arabic numbers around the dial. The polished hands offer great contrast, and are easy to read at a glance. The case and lugs are one in the same with clean continuous lines on either side of the thin beveled bezel. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the workhorse 7001 is keeping near perfect time post service. Paired with a camo canvas over leather strap, this beauty from April of 1970 is an affordable head turner with a militaristic appeal that's sure to get plenty of attention.
