1974 Seiko 6139-6002 Automatic Chronograph “Blue Pogue”
1974 Seiko 6139-6002 Automatic Chronograph “Blue Pogue”
For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. For collectors, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. This example from December of ‘74 is outstanding. The rich, velvety blue dial is just stunning, and the luminous material on the markers is the original, and still a crisp bright white that leaps off the dial. The rotating inner bezel is a vivid black with crisp silver markings, and shows almost no fading from UV exposure. The hour and minute hands have retained their polished finish, thought some very slight oxidation is visible. The chronograph hands are a glossy, fiery red/orange that is both complementary, and in perfect contrast to the dial. The outer “Pepsi” bezel is near perfect in metallic red and blue, and free of fading or color loss. The case is unpolished, and the original finishes are clearly intact with only a few scattered blemishes. The chronograph functions are snappy and responsive, and post service, the 6139B is keeping near perfect time. It comes attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet with its original end links for a clean and seamless finish. A true Seiko classic, it’s certain to earn a top spot in any rotation.
