For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, the the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. From August of ‘76, this example has great patina and character, and is in fantastic condition overall. Though the deep golden yellow sunburst is virtually perfect, the lacquer finish has developed a slight oxidized texture throughout. The hour markers have kept their polished finish with minimal oxidation, and the luminous material has remained mostly bright white with only a bit of color around the edges. The hour and minute hands have some scattered oxidation, but have mostly retained their mirror finish. The original luminous material in the hands shows some color and uneven patina, but is complete and untouched.  The chronograph hands are bright red orange, and are free of any chipping or paint loss. The inner bezel rotates freely in either direction via the crown, and remains a bright, vivid yellow. The case is unpolished and the original finishes are still clearly visible. The outer bezel shows almost no signs of wear, and a perfect even color fade. It comes attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet for a complete and seamless finish. Post service, the 6139B is keeping near perfect time, and the chronograph functions are crisp and responsive. Aside from a replacement crystal, it’s completely original, and a great opportunity to own a watch that has reached near “grail” status among collectors.
