1978 Seiko 6309-8010 Automatic Day/Date
1978 Seiko 6309-8010 Automatic Day/Date
For those looking to enter the vintage arena at an affordable level without compromising on quality, this classic casual from June of ‘78 is the perfect jumping off point. It boasts a slick silver sunburst with a glossy lacquer finish, and large applied luminous markers in bright white. At its edge is a bold black minute track that creates a nice contrasting frame. The hour and minute hands are easily legible polished and beveled batons, and a slender sweep counts the seconds. The framed day and date window is well balanced, and the day can be toggled between English and Roman numerals. The case is a classic affair at a comfortable 37mm, and features a mix of polished and brushed finishes. It’s topped with a polished bezel and a screw down case back. Sharing a movement with the venerable “Turtle” diver, this time piece utilizes the workhorse 6309 automatic with independent day/date quickset via the crown. A robust and reliable movement, it’s keeping near perfect time post service, and should offer many years of faithful service. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and we’ve paired it with a tan suede that’s a perfect partner to the stunning dial. A truly standout casual that’s as versatile as it is reliable, and bound to be a ‘go to’ in any rotation.
