There was no shortage of amazing Sport Divers offered by Seiko from the late 60’s and through the 1970’s. Beefy cases and an array of colors and designs made for several memorable pieces, many of which still top the lists of collectors today. Often referred to as the “UFO” due to the saucer shaped tonneau case, this 70m variant from April of ‘69 is a blacked out bombshell. The dial is a flawless, subtly textured matte black set with giant, polished monument markers. The hour and minute hands are block batons with a mirror polished finish and black striping to match the hour markers, and a blaze orange sweep counts the seconds. Framing the dial is a “count up” bezel with raised 10 minute designations and a large luminous crest at zero. It has held its vivid black color, and can be rotated freely in either direction via the crown. The case is crisp and unpolished with the factory finishes still intact, and the corners are razor sharp. It’s completely original other than a replacement crystal, and post service it’s keeping near perfect time.  We’ve paired it with a “Tropic” style black silicone strap for a period correct, and comfortable fit and finish. At 43mm, its a beautiful beast and sure to be a fast favorite on any roster.
