We’re always on the lookout for clean, casual “weekenders” and this time-only field watch is a barebones tool with pounds of character and a military aesthetic. The dial, which was originally white, has developed a sepia toned patina beneath the lacquer finish that exhibits a gradient light to dark progression from the center outward. With no date aperture, it offers an extremely clean aesthetic that's only heightened by the upright stenciled luminous Arabics marking the hours. The polished and tapered baton hands offer great contrast, and are easy to read at a glance. The case and lugs are one and the same, with clean continuous lines on either side of the thin beveled bezel. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the workhorse 7001 is keeping near perfect time post service. Paired with a retro Sienna grain leather, this beauty from April of 1970 is an affordable head turner with a militaristic appeal that's sure to get plenty of attention.
