At the crossroads of vintage and versatile sits Seiko's 6139-6012. With styling as timeless in design now as it was making history as one of the worlds first automatic chronographs, it’s ready for every occasion and built to deliver on performance. In recent years, several images have surfaced of legendary martial artist, Bruce Lee wearing a 6010, and though the jury may still be out on whether Lee’s was a JDM 5 Sports, or export “Proof” or “Resist” variant, enthusiasts desperate to own Little Dragon’s Seiko have been snatching them up at record pace. This one from January of ‘72 a fantastic example overall. The matte black dial is near perfect aside from a single small blemish just beneath the 10 hour marker. It’s trimmed in a blocked silver minute track and sports the "70m Resist" demarcation only printed on earlier variants. The angular chapter is a glossy black and with its silver tachymetric scale, adds the right amount of sport to an otherwise casual layout. The case is textbook Seiko with great contours, a wide flat bezel, and the original circular brush finish still quite visible. It is unpolished, and completely original aside from a replacement crystal. Post service it’s keeping near perfect time and the chronograph functions are crisp. We’ve paired it with a smooth grain oiled sienna for a classic Black and Tan finish that’s right for any setting. As demand for “Bruce Lee” models continues to rise, opportunities to own one are falling faster than a bad guy at the business end of a one inch punch. Don’t wait on this one.
