1977 Seiko 6309-8039 Automatic 17j Day/Date
1977 Seiko 6309-8039 Automatic 17j Day/Date
If you’re in the market for a vintage affordable with color appeal and proven performance, this 6309 from August of ‘77 is as good as it gets. The dial is a deep cobalt blue with a satin “feathered” finish, and an applied “railroad” chapter in black. The hours are marked by soft gray cross beams along the track, and the minute hashes are printed in silver beneath the “rails” of the chapter.. The hour and minute hands are wide, beveled batons with machined centers, and a long and slim sweep counts the seconds. The case is a soft square cushion with short sloping lugs, and a thin framing bezel. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and we’ve paired it with a smooth brown leather for a mellow contrast that heightens the striking features of the dial. Sharing a movement with the venerable “Turtle” diver, the 6309 driving the hands offers independent quickset of both the day and date, and post service is keeping near perfect time. Whether this is your first, or next great vintage Seiko, it’s bound to become a fast favorite in any rotation.
