1978 Pulsar (Seiko) Y513-8069 Quartz Day/Date Field Watch
1978 Pulsar (Seiko) Y513-8069 Quartz Day/Date Field Watch
The build quality and design layouts of Seiko’s early Pulsar offerings is undeniable. They present a real opportunity to acquire top quality Seiko engineering at Pulsar’s bargain prices… for now. We’d urge you to set aside any notion of its present day entry level offerings, and discover the sweet spot of the vintage market offered up by late 70’s, and early 80’s Pulsar. If you’re still not convinced, consider this Field Watch from September of ‘78. The Pulsar Y513 movement is nearly identical to the Seiko 7546 housed in the first quartz sport divers Seiko ever produced. Built on the 6309 platform, it’s a rock solid performer that’s built to last, and nearly 40 years later, still performs like new. Unable to say no to a great Arabic dial, the split Jersey font on this velvety satin navy dial couldn’t be passed up. It’s framed by a steep matching chapter that creates a well of depth, and the bi-color hands add stark contrast. The case is a chunky steel tonneau with hooded lugs and crisp corners, finished with a bezel free flat for a bold but sleek profile. The inset mineral crystal is the original, and virtually free of any blemishes. It’s unpolished and all original, and we’ve paired it with a steel gray tropic style strap that gives it a rugged fit and finish. The Y513 is keeping perfect time post service, and a fresh battery has been installed. If an affordable vintage weekender with a military edge is what you need, this one is up to the task.
