1983 Seiko 6309-8660 “5” Automatic Day/Date “Field Watch”
1983 Seiko 6309-8660 “5” Automatic Day/Date “Field Watch”
For those looking to enter the vintage arena at an affordable level without compromising on quality, this 6309 “Field Watch” from September of ‘83 is the perfect jumping off point. It boasts a matte black dial with subtle texture, and prominent Arabic luminous markers in bright white. The hour and minute hands are polished luminous batons with white striping through the center, and the slender sweep nearly reaches the minute track. The shared day and date window is easily legible in black and white, and the day can be toggled between English and Roman numerals. The case is a classic tonneau with rolled, hooded lugs, and a soft brushed finish along the top. With no bezel, and an inset mineral crystal, the profile is sleek and seamless. Sharing a movement with the venerable “Turtle” diver, it houses the workhorse 6309 automatic with independent day/date quickset via the crown. Robust and reliable, it’s keeping near perfect time post service, and will provide many more years of faithful service. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and we’ve paired it with a vintage oiled sienna that makes for striking contrast, and comfort on the wrist. A truly standout weekender that’s as ready for adventure as you are, this one is bound to be a “go to” on any roster.
