When it comes to the “perfect” dial, few configurations can top the crisp contrast of a clean and understated Arabic format. Typically associated with military purposes, they are highly legible, minimalist timepieces that offer classic style and timeless design. This 7009 from Seiko’s Daini division is a perfect example. Produced in April of ‘83, it features an inky black dial with a high gloss finish and large luminous Arabics with a metallic silver trim. At the the three o’clock position is a framed day/date window, both of which can be quickset via the crown (press for day, and crown in second position for date). The case architecture is classic Seiko with smooth lines, beveled edges, and a contoured curvature that provides great comfort on the wrist. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service, it’s keeping near perfect time. In keeping with its casual “field watch” aesthetic, we’ve paired it with an olive drab suede that’s as versatile as it is comfortable. At 37mm, it’s got eye-catching presence for a classic vintage affordable that’s sure to be a fast favorite wherever it lands.
