1984 Seiko 6309-7049 Automatic 150m Pro Diver “Turtle”
1984 Seiko 6309-7049 Automatic 150m Pro Diver “Turtle”
As important as any watch can be to the efficacy of a brand, the 6309-7040/9 is a perfect delivery of intention. It's as rugged and hard wearing as it is aesthetically satisfying. Even as the first "Turtles" released in 1976 turn 45 this year, one thing is certain... they don't ever get old. This example from April of ‘84 is no exception. Unpolished, and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, it's an opportunity to add an icon to your roster. The luminous plots are bright white with no visible patina or degradation. The hands have retained their polished finish and spotless luminous windows. The bezel rotates with a firm click in either direction, and the insert bears only light wear. The crown and case back screw down tightly, and the 6309A they protect is a workhorse movement ready to provide many more years of reliable time keeping. Post service, it has a strong reserve and is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a black “Tropic” for a comfortable vintage finish that looks great on the wrist. A true Seiko icon, and still their top selling diver to date, it’s a must have for any collector
