1972 Seiko 6117-6400 Automatic “World Time” (GMT)
1972 Seiko 6117-6400 Automatic “World Time” (GMT)
Seiko's third iteration of the “World Time" design came in the form of the 6400/9. It was available in a handful of color ways, and for us, the crisp white linen is the perfect blend of its history and progression. The near perfect dial is a silvery bright white with subtle linen texture, and a slick lacquer finish. At its edge is a black 24 hour track that can be used in conjunction with the "cities of the world" inner bezel to determine the time anywhere in the world at a glance. The hands and applied markers are brightly polished aside from the bold red of the contoured GMT hand. The case offers great vintage appeal through its tonneau style architecture and large 41mm diameter. The crown is set flush against the case, and in the neutral position can be turned in either direction to rotate the inner bezel. The date can be quickset via the crown in the second position. This example from July of ‘72 is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. It’s unpolished with crisp corners, and we’ve paired it with a smooth black leather with white stitching that showcases the dial. The hacking 6117B is a workhorse movement built to last, and is keeping near perfect time post service. A Seiko classic with a rich history that’s sure to be right on time, anywhere in the world.
