When it comes to the “perfect” dial, few configurations can top the crisp contrast of a clean and understated Arabic format. Typically associated with military purposes, they are highly legible, minimalist timepieces that offer classic style and timeless design. This 6309 “Field Watch” is a perfect example. Produced in July of ‘80, it features a cobalt blue sunburst dial with a soft matte finish and large, luminous Arabic hours. It’s finished in clean white print, and a subtle minute track along the border. The dial finish is clean aside from a very light blemish below the day/date window. The hour and minute hands are solid white batons that are legible at a glance, and the slender polished sweep has a luminous window near the tip. At the the three o’clock position is a day/date window, both of which can be quickset via the crown in the second position. The case architecture is clean and simple with a slim profile, and at 35mm, has an easy presence on the wrist. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and shares the same movement as Seiko’s venerable “Turtle” 150m pro diver. Post service, this one’s keeping near perfect time, and is sure to be a reliable time keeper for many years to come.
