1966 JDM Seiko 6206-8040 Seikomatic Weekdater
1966 JDM Seiko 6206-8040 Seikomatic Weekdater
Seiko's "Weekdater" line up from the 1960's offer some of the cleanest layouts and appealing designs to come out of era. Mid-century modernity and minimalism that's just as relevant today as it was when they were introduced more than 50 years ago. This 8040 from January of '66 is no exception... A scarcely seen JDM variant, it features the full Kanji days of the week in a framed aperture above the six o'clock marker. Other than the applied Seiko logo, there are only two lines of text gracing the lacquer finished, silvery sunburst dial. The markers are polished and beveled, and the broad dauphine hands are crisp and perfectly proportioned. The case sports a thin polished bezel, but the lugs and profile are stocky with sharp corners and crisp angles. Incredibly well preserved, it is as dependable as it is versatile, and opportunities to own one are quickly diminishing as they are in extremely high demand.
