1966 Seiko 8306-8001 Seikomatic-R 30 Jewels
1966 Seiko 8306-8001 Seikomatic-R 30 Jewels
Seiko's "Seikomatic" line up from the 1960's offer some of the cleanest layouts and appealing designs to come out of era. Mid-century modernity and minimalism that's just as relevant today as it was when they were introduced more than 50 years ago. This Seikomatic-R from March of ‘66 is a scarcely seen variant that offers a few benefits not found in its cal. 62 brethren. For starters, the 30 jewel movement is a true gem that showcases the innovation to Seiko’s approach at the time. Rather than the “magic lever,” the winding mechanism incorporates a complicated, yet very efficient integrated “inversion roller” system that is silky smooth and can be manually wound via the crown. The case styling is ultra-classic. A thin polished bezel tops a minimal design with tapered lugs and a crisp bevel that runs the length of the case on watch side. The dial is a silvery sunburst with a lacquered finish and bold fonts. The applied markers are perfectly beveled and polished. The tapered sword style hands are brightly polished, and beveled along the edges. The day/date window large and legible and finished in a well proportioned frame. Overall, it is in fantastic condition considering it’s now more than a half century old. We’ve paired it with a distressed black leather with reverse stitching that truly showcases the immaculate dial. A rare treat, this ones sure to be a head turner on any wrist.
