1969 Seiko 6119-8300 5 Sports 70m Sport Diver “Rally”
Seiko produced no shortage of sport divers in the late 60's and 70's, but none so memorable and as sought after as those that carry the "Rally" distinction. So named for their checkered bezels and dials, they are an instantly recognizable combination of color and cool. This variant from March of 1969 is a fantastic example that makes it easy to see what makes them so appealing. The case is a well proportioned tonneau with a circular brush finish that’s topped with a wide knurled bezel. The insert is a show stopper in a blue and silver checked pattern that shows almost zero wear. The dial is a rich metallic blue sunburst with a glossy lacquer finish. The minute track is an alternating baby blue and silver check that traces a line through the applied markers. The wide baton style hands are striped and polished and in perfect contrast is a vibrant orange sweep seconds. The dial shows a few scuff marks due likely to carelessness in handling at some point, but the marks are minimal and do little to detract from the overall amazing condition of this awesome diver. The 6119 driving the hands is keeping near perfect time post service, and we’ve paired this one with a heavy desert khaki NATO that works nicely with the range of blues at play. Don’t miss your chance to add a killer “Rally” to your roster!
