For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, the the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. This example from February of ‘71 is exactly that. The rich, velvety blue dial is perfect. The luminous material on the markers shows almost no signs of aging, and being an earlier variant, it carries the “70m Resist” designation. The rotating inner bezel is a deep and glossy black free of fading from UV exposure. The polished hands are without any signs of degradation, and the luminous material is a perfect match to that of the hour markers. The chronograph hands are a vivid red/orange that is both complementary, and in perfect contrast to the dial. The outer bezel in a crisp, metallic red and blue is near mint with only the slightest signs of its 47 years of age. The case remains unpolished with the original factory finishes still clearly intact, and its attached to the original and correct non-tapered “H-Link” bracelet. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. If you’ve been waiting for the right example, this one checks all the boxes.
