1972 JDM Seiko 6139-7050 "Speed Timer
1972 JDM Seiko 6139-7050 "Speed Timer
Chances are, you didn't even know this Speed Timer even existed until seeing this listing, but for many collectors it's near the top of the "Most Desirable Seiko 6139's" list... and why wouldn't it be. From September of '72, this JDM cousin to the more commonly seen 6139-7070 is a benchmark for vintage chronograph design. The case (40mm) has great lines, sloping contours, and feels tailored to the wrist. The crystal has been replaced with a NOS "hardlex" that's an integrated design specific to this model with a bevel that's a seamless continuation of the low profile bezel. The dial is without a doubt, a Seiko masterpiece consisting of a tri-level design in which the center section in a soft matte graphite carries the Seiko branding, and the fiery orange "Speed Timer" logo. Framing it is an upper level in flat black with long and lean white markers stretching all the way to the tachy. scaled chapter. The chronograph hands supply an appropriate drop of color in an otherwise monochromatic layout, and provide a perfect finish. This may likely be the only opportunity you'll have to own this scarcely seen specimen, and we're betting that opportunity will be short lived.
