Few Seiko Divers are as sought after as the 6105-8110/9. Whether due to a cameo appearance in the film 'Apocalypse Now,' where it sits prominently on the wrist of Capt. Willard, played by Martin Sheen, or for the fact that there are so many modern interpretations and homages to this historic timepiece, there's no denying that its truly an icon. Whatever the motivation, owning an original is in most circumstances, easier said than done. This example from May of ‘73 shows some aging and patina, and is perfect for those seeking a watch with a bit of character. The flat black dial is clean and free of staining, though the Seiko logo has a brassy appearance due to some oxidation. The markers and luminous material are original, and bear a nice creamy patina, though some scattered darkening can be seen at some of the corners. The hands are the original polished batons with only slight oxidation at the edges, however, they have been carefully re-lumed to match the markers as some of the original luminous material had been lost. The click bezel rotates smoothly in either direction, and the insert shows only moderate wear. The original lume pip and acrylic lens are still intact. The crown is the original, and locks firmly into position. The case is unpolished and in overall fantastic condition. The factory finishes are clearly visible, and all corners are crisp. The hacking 6015B is keeping near perfect time post service, and it’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal. We’ve paired it with a reproduction “Waffle” strap that provides a clean fit and finish and comfort on the wrist.
