1977 JDM Seiko 6306-7001 150m Sport Diver “Turtle”
1977 JDM Seiko 6306-7001 150m Sport Diver “Turtle”
Seiko’s “Turtle” Sport Divers need little in the way of an introduction. Standing alone as their top selling diver of all time, their popularity and dependability is unquestionable. With undeniable presence and a distinct appearance, there is only one thing better than owning a well preserved example of this historic diver; and that is owning well preserved JDM example. The 6306 was produced alongside the 6309 export version, but only until 1981 when production of the latter was moved to Hong Kong, leaving a short five year window from which to acquire one of these far more scarce domestic variants. In addition to the Kanji day wheel, the JDM “Turtle” houses an upgraded movement in the form of the 21 jewel, hacking 6306. It’s export counterpart, though quite capable, is fitted with a 17 jewel, non-hacking 6309. This example from July of 1977 is outstanding. The minty matte black dial is stunning, and the large original luminous plots have developed a subtle, creamy patina that is matched beautifully in the broad polished hands. The bezel insert shows only slight wear, and the the bezel itself rotates smoothly in either direction. The crown and case back screw down tightly, and post service, the 6306 is keeping impeccable time. We’ve paired this one with a “Tropic” style strap for a functional and comfortable finish. Don’t miss this opportunity to add a legend to your line up.
