1979 Seiko 7009-8279 Day/Date “Arabic”
1979 Seiko 7009-8279 Day/Date “Arabic”
A Daini classic, this 7009 from June of ‘79 is a vintage classic with pounds of polished refinement. The case is undoubtedly Seiko with hints of Tanaka’s “Grammar of Design” coming through in the angles and surfaces of the architecture. Beneath a thin, flat bezel sits a creamy white dial without a hint of a blemish, and the markers are raised “Arabics” in a stylish font finished in black. The hands are thin polished batons that add character with a thin black stripe through the center. Sweeping along the minute track is a thin matte black second hand in perfect contrast to the white back drop. A framed day/date window resides at three o’clock, and both can be indecently quickset via the crown at four. A sophisticated casual, this watch is perfect for any occasion, and the 7009 driving the hands is keeping fantastic time post service. For a crisp finish, we’ve paired this one with a dark brown distressed leather with reverse stitching. If you’re looking for an affordable vintage watch for every occasion, this one is sure to catch eyes and start conversations.
