1968 Seiko 6105-8069 Automatic Date 17j (Proof)
In an effort to bring you the best in vintage affordables, we couldn’t let this Suwa classic slide by. You may already recognize the 6105 movement as the workhorse behind one of Seiko’s most sought after Sport Divers, the Capt. Willard “Apocalypse Now” (6105-8119). Rather than the hacking B variant in the watch mentioned, this mid-century beauty houses the earlier A variant without the hack (seconds setting) feature. It does have, however, three dial attributes guaranteed to always turn our attention: A sleek cross hair, a glossy satin finish, and irresistible patina. In addition, it’s set with beveled applied markers with black striping, and a framed date window at three. The hands are polished and beveled, and the luminous material therein has developed a warm khaki patina. The case architecture is reminiscent of an early “Sea Lion” model with beveled lugs, mixed finishes, and a low profile height. It’s unpolished, and all original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a gray suede leather with white stitching to compliment the dial and provide comfort on the wrist. A slick casual with pounds of character, this one is sure to impress and provide many more years of reliable service.
