1973 Seiko 5740-8000 Lord Marvel Hi-Beat 36000
1973 Seiko 5740-8000 Lord Marvel Hi-Beat 36000
Understated. Minimalist. Austere.... Seiko's Lord Marvel is a testimony to simplicity and elegance. Crisp lines and beautifully beveled and tapered lugs give the case a classically designed platform from which to showcase a combination of dial and movement that refuses to go unnoticed. The dial is a silvery linen pattern beneath a glossy lacquer finish with applied Arabic markers finished in black. Above the "Suwa" symbol is the cleanly printed "Lord Marvel" branding followed by the 36000 bph distinction. The sword hands are polished, tapered to a fine point, and finished with a thin black stripe. As indicated it houses Seiko's 5740C, a high beat "marvel" of a movement. It is manually wound by the oversized crown and hums along at 36000 bph making the slender, polished second hand appear to glide along the minute track at 10 beats per second. Post service, it’s keeping near perfect time and is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. This example from April of ‘73 is pure class on the wrist and is bound to catch more than a few second looks. On chestnut brown grain leather with reverse stitching, it is nicely finished and a perfect addition to any collection.
