1973 Seiko 7006-6039 Automatic Day/Date “31 Day Calendar”

From Seiko’s Danai division, this Calendar model from June of 1973 is a truly beautiful blend of form and function. In addition to the day and date window, the border of the dial is laid out in a “days of the week” motif. These days coincide with numerals evenly spaced along the glossy black inner bezel that can be rotated using the larger crown at two o’clock. Once properly aligned, the crown is pressed into its locked position, and at a glance, you can determine the day of the week for any given day of the current month. Not only is this an extremely useful application, Daini did an amazing job of making it one of the most aesthetically pleasing calendars you’ve ever had the opportunity to wear. The dial is a rich cobalt blue sunburst with polished applied markers, and each is separated by the baby blue segmented minute chapter. The hands are polished and striped in white, and sweeping around the dial is a thin, flat white second hand. The case is a broad tonneau shape reaching 40mm through the center, and its topped with a wide flat bezel that easily slides under a traditional shirt cuff. It comes attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet that seamlessly transitions from the case, and is comfortable on the wrist. A “smart” watch with a calendar app you’ll actually enjoy using, we’re sure this will be a regular in any rotation.
