1974 Seiko 6117-6400 Automatic "World Time"
1974 Seiko 6117-6400 Automatic "World Time"
Seiko's third iteration of a "world time" design came in the form of the 6400. It was available in a few different color ways, and this example from July of ‘74 is the lesser found charcoal linen with a white hour track. The dial is a rich, dark gray with a subtle linen texture, and slick lacquer finish. At its edge is a white 24 hour track that can be used in conjunction with the "cities of the world" inner bezel to determine the time anywhere in the world at a glance. The hands and applied markers are brightly polished aside from the bold red of the contoured GMT hand. The case offers great vintage appeal through its tonneau style architecture and large 41mm diameter. The crown is set flush against the case, and in the neutral position can be turned in either direction to rotate the inner bezel. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. It’s unpolished with crisp corners, and still attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet. The hacking 6117B is a workhorse movement built to last, and is keeping near perfect time post service. A Seiko classic that’s sure to be a fast favorite in any collection.
