For those in the market for a clean vintage classic with timeless appeal, Seiko’s Daini division delivers. If you’ve followed us for any length of time, you’re likely aware of our Arabic dial obsession, and this 7009-8219 from April of ‘80 is a perfect example of why. The dial is perfect. Its matte white sandblasted finish offers great texture, and is the perfect backdrop for the glossy black, applied Arabic markers. The hour and minute hands are thin, lengthy batons with a bright polished finish, and black striping through the center, and the counting the seconds is a long and slender sweep. The day and date share a framed window at three o’clock, and a subtle minute track frames it all. The case is textbook Seiko with tapered lugs, a recessed crown, and a well balanced, beveled bezel. The 7009 is a tried and true workhorse that is keeping near perfect time post service, and is ready for many more years of reliable timekeeping. We’ve paired it with a matte gray distressed leather with white stitching to complement the dial and provide a comfortable and versatile finish. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, though the lugs appear to have been touched up with a fiberglass brush at some point.
