For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. For collectors, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. From July of ‘69, this example features the earliest occurrence of a “Resist” dial and caseback I’ve ever seen, and is in incredible condition overall. The rich, velvety blue dial is flawless. The luminous material on the markers is the original, and free of any color or degradation. The rotating inner bezel is vivid black and rotates smoothly in either direction. The polished hour and minute hands have retained their polished finish, and the luminous windows have just a tinge of color along the edges. The chronograph hands are a fiery red/orange that is both complementary, and in perfect contrast to the dial, and the sweep is the original and correct two-piece design. The outer bezel in crisp, metallic red and blue shows virtually no wear or color fade. The notched case is unpolished with the original factory finishes still crisp, and the corners are razor sharp. It comes attached to the original non-tapered “H” link bracelet with no stretching through the hinges and snugly fit original end links. The chronograph functions are responsive, and post service, the 6139A is keeping near perfect time. Completely original including the bezel set crystal, its a rare early specimen that, for any serious collector, will be hard to “resist.”
