1970 Seiko 6139-6019 Automatic Chronograph

At the crossroads of vintage and versatile sits Seiko's 6139-6019. With styling  as timeless in design now, as it was making history as one of the worlds first automatic chronographs, it’s ready for every occasion and built to deliver on performance. This example from August of ‘70 is in great condition and sure to turn heads in any room. The dial is a rich cobalt blue with a subtle sunburst pattern, and a glossy lacquer finish. It’s trimmed in a blocked silver minute track that surrounds ample luminous plots that have remained a clean bright white. The hour and minute hands are polished batons that are easily legible at a glance, and the brick orange chronograph hands add perfect color contrast. As denoted on the dial, it’s an earlier “Resist” model on which the sweep hand is the correct “two-piece” style with a button rivet at center. The angular chapter is a glossy metallic blue with a silver tachymetric scale that adds the right amount of sport to an otherwise casual layout. The case is textbook Seiko with great contours, a wide flat bezel, and the original circular brush finish is still intact. The 6139A driving the hands is keeping near perfect time post service, and the chronograph functions are crisp and responsive. We’ve paired it with a distressed brown leather with white full stitching that pairs perfectly with the dial and provides comfort and versatility on the wrist. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal. If a colorful classic with pounds of appeal is on your list, don’t wait on this one.
