1970 Seiko 7005-8039 Automatic Date (Crosshair)
1970 Seiko 7005-8039 Automatic Date (Crosshair)
We’re always on the lookout for vintage Seiko affordables that work just as hard on the wrist as they do behind the dial. This 7005 from January of ‘70 deserves a promotion. Sharing a case with the 8030 MAC-V SOG issue, it features sloping contours and a wrist hugging profile. The architecture creates the appearance of two opposing crescent shaped lugs held together by a thin beveled bezel. Beneath the domed acrylic is a rich charcoal sunburst dial with polished applied rectangular markers, each of which has a square luminous window. The cardinal markers are more pronounced and joined by a thin silver crosshair. The hands are thick batons with a mirror finish, and a slender sweep reaches all the way to the subtle minute track. The 7005 is a date only calibre with a window at three o’clock, and post service this ones keeping near perfect time. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and we’ve paired it with a black canvas strap for a clean casual finish. Pounds of vintage appeal and reliability make this one an easy addition to any line up.
