We are always on the lookout for interesting and unique vintage affordables, and this Daini variant from May of ‘76 is exactly that. The dial is a flawless charcoal sunburst with polished applied markers and giant luminous plots. At three o’clock is a framed day/date window in English and French, and all are surrounded by a subtle silver minute track. The hands are broad batons that are easily legible, and the original luminous material has remained a clean bright white throughout. The case is a hexagonal tonneau with short thick lugs, and the lack of a bezel gives it a nice thin profile. Post service, the 7009 driving the hands is keeping near perfect time and has a strong reserve. The date can be quickset by rotating the crown in the second position, and the day can be set by pressing inward on the crown. We’ve paired it with a taupe suede that contrasts nicely against the dial and offers comfort on the wrist.
