2016 Seiko 7S36-03C0 Automatic 5 Sports Diver “Sea Urchin” (SNZF15)
2016 Seiko 7S36-03C0 Automatic 5 Sports Diver “Sea Urchin” (SNZF15)
Though not a vintage Seiko by any stretch, the opportunity to acquire and repair this “Sea Urchin” arose, and its cost to value ratio led me to offer it here for anyone looking for a solid sport diver that’s up to pretty much anything you are. For over a decade, it has been a core member of Seiko’s Sport Diver lineup, and through solid construction, a robust movement, and great styling, it has remained a solid choice for weekend warriors wanting more for less. This example from March of ‘16 shows only light signs of wear, and is in amazing condition overall. The case design is signature seiko with beefy lugs, well proportioned height, and a near “universally perfect” 41mm diameter. The dial is a glossy black with oversized and framed luminous markers, balanced text and badging, and a framed day/date window at three. The hands can’t be missed. Long and broad polished “swords’ with black hilts and expansive luminous windows. The sweep is a polished reverse “lollipop” that nearly drags the chapter. Framing the dial is a steep minute chapter with thick silver hashes that creates a nice depth and a seamless transition from dial to bezel. The uni-directional bezel has deep knurling for an easy grip, and smooth action. The count-up insert is near perfect showing only a couple of extremely light blemishes Behind the exhibition case back, the workhorse 7S36 is visible, and post service is keeping near perfect time. It comes attached to the original solid “three link” bracelet in stainless steel with a deployant clasp and fold over lock. It’s unpolished and completely original including the hardlex crystal. If you’re looking for a beast on a budget with timeless style that’s sure to offer decades of faithful service, this is the easiest decision you can make.
