I will go on record saying that Seiko’s 6106 Sport Divers from the late 60’s and early 70’s are easily one of the best values on the vintage market. For those after a sporty tool watch that’s everything but cumbersome on the wrist, the 6057 may be the perfect addition. At 38mm, it’s incredibly comfortable and packs pounds of features into a tight package. The whole package in this case. The one and only owner of this watch was quite particular, and insisted on preserving the box, papers, and even the hang tag that accompanied it when purchased on March 1st, way back in 1971. The watch itself rolled off the production line one year earlier in March of 1970, and was very clearly well cared for over the last half-century. The matte black dial is perfect, and the original luminous plots are well proportioned and have developed an even, soft gray patina. The hour and minute hands are brightly polished batons with a similar patina to the markers, and ticking off the seconds is a bright red “lollipop” sweep. Framing the dial is a broad and angular “count up” bezel that rotates smoothly in either direction via the crown. The case is a classic tonneau with crisp corners, sharp lines, and the original finishes are still clearly visible. The 6106 driving the hands is a true seiko workhorse that’s both durable and reliable. It offers quickset of the day and date, and hacking seconds. It’s unpolished, and completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal. It comes attached to the original three-link bracelet, along with two unused extra links. Post service, it’s keeping near perfect time with ample reserve. A truly rare opportunity to own a functional “time” capsule, it’s sure to be as noticed on display as it is on the wrist.
