1980 NOS JDM Seiko H357-5120 Ana/Digi “Silverwave” (Inner/Outer Box, Hangtag)
1980 NOS JDM Seiko H357-5120 Ana/Digi “Silverwave” (Inner/Outer Box, Hangtag)
No matter what you collect, new old stock discoveries are always among the most exciting to uncover. They are a sharply focused lens to a bygone time and place that allow you to see the history of your interest in the same way as you would, had you been there as it was happening. This rare “time” capsule adds the benefit of having also been a JDM only release as part of the “Silver Wave” lineage. Seiko’s “H” series dual display movements were introduced in 1980, and were cutting edge in terms of features and performance. The H357 was the tighter, more compact variant of the dual display movements, and all were housed in an array of “tank” cases covering several styles. The 5040 was even featured on the wrist of Roger Moore in the 1981 James Bond film, “For Your Eyes Only.”
This H357-5120 from October of 1980, comes in the original box and sleeve, and still has the JDM hang tag attached to the clasp. It is a true NOS item that has no visible wear, and is completely original from top to bottom. The transparent blue case back sticker is still in place, and the studded polyurethane shroud is free of any marks or blemishes. The movement has been carefully cleaned and serviced, and with a fresh battery installed, all functions are operating as designed, and it is keeping perfect time. In addition to the analog time display, the digital read out offers day/date, time, alarm, hourly chime, and a 1/100th chronograph. The finishes and styling make this one an icon of early 80’s cyberpunk, and likely your only opportunity to own it as if you’d hopped in a DeLorean and fired up the flux capacitor to fetch it.
