1970 Seiko 7001-8009 Automatic 17j “Field Watch”

1970 Seiko 7001-8009 Automatic 17j “Field Watch”

$325.00

From Seiko’s Daini division, this time only field watch is rugged minimalism with a militant edge. The dial is ivory white, with a pearlescent pink and purple gradient patina and a glossy lacquer finish. With no date aperture, it offers a clean and balanced aesthetic that's only heightened by the stenciled luminous Arabic numbers marking the hours. Over several decades, they have developed a perfect flat khaki patina. The hour and minute hands are polished and tapered batons that are easy to spot at a glance, and the slender sweep reaches right into the minute track. The case and lugs are seamless with clean continuous lines on either side of a thin beveled bezel, and contouring that offers comfort on the wrist. We’ve paired it with an olive drab suede with cream stitching that highlights the dial patina, and provides a versatile fit and finish. Post service, the self-winding 7001 is keeping time to within a few seconds per day, and winds and sets smoothly. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the corners are razor sharp. From March of 1970, it’s an affordable head turner that's sure to be a fast favorite in any lineup.
