1976 Seiko 6138-0030 Automatic Chronograph “Kakume”
1976 Seiko 6138-0030 Automatic Chronograph “Kakume”
In Japanese, "Kakume" translates roughly to "square eyes." And like two square, satin silver eyes, the sub registers of this colossal chronograph stare back at you from their recessed position beneath the rich cobalt blue dial. This example from August of ‘76 is phenomenal. The dial is virtually flawless, and captivates from every angle. The subtle sunburst finish is framed by a glossy black minute chapter, and set with polished applied hour markers striped in white. The square sub registers are a soft, satin silver finished in a north south grain. The pencil style hour and minute hands are long a lean in flat black with white “arrow” tips and the original luminous windows are still intact. The chronograph hands have retained their vivid bright orange hue and standout beautifully against the surrounding blue and silver. The matching bezel insert is very well preserved showing only very minor wear and no fading. The case is a hooded hexagonal tonneau with crisp lines and the original factory finishes are still intact. The chronograph functions are smooth and responsive with a snappy reset. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. It comes attached the the original Seiko tapered “fishbone” bracelet for a seamless fit and finish, and we’re certain this one will become the new front runner of any rotation.
