For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. For collectors, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. From June of ‘75, this is an overall fantastic example. The rich, velvety blue dial bears only a few minor blemishes in the finish, though nothing that breaks the paint. The luminous material on the markers is the original, and still a crisp bright white with only hints of a developing patina. The rotating inner bezel bears a touch of typical fading, but the silver markings are crisp and clear. The hour and minute hands have retained their polished finish, but some light scuffing is visible. The luminous material within is the original, and a perfect match to the markers. The red/orange chronograph hands are free of any chipping or paint loss. The outer bezel exhibits moderate wear throughout, and the red portion has uniformly faded to a pink orange. The markings are still complete and legible. The case is unpolished and shows some light wear, but the factory finishes are still clearly visible and the corners are still quite sharp. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. It comes attached to the original tapered “H” link bracelet for a comfortable and complete fit and finish. A great example with a bit of character, it’s sure to find a regular spot in any rotation.
