1977 Seiko 6139-6002 Automatic Chronograph “Pogue” (SEA/Thong Sia)

$1,550.00

For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, the the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. From May of ‘77, this 6002 is among the best we’ve ever offered. It was built for, and sold in South East Asian (SEA) market through Seiko’s sole distribution partner in that region, Thong Sia. The Seiko/Thong Sia relationship was an incredibly important one to both parties, and as a result, Seiko allowed for specialized configurations and color ways never available elsewhere. The “Silver” and “Aussie” Pogue, “Reverse Lume” Pogue, and chocolate 6011 and 8020 are other examples of this collaboration. Thong Sia variants were exclusively fitted with Stelux bracelets (Stelux is currently the parent company to Thong Sia), and the day displays were almost always Roman numerals or Chinese. While this Thong Sia example is the classic “Pogue” layout, it is an absolutely stunning example. The golden sunburst (T) dial is virtually flawless. The hour and minute hands are free of oxidation or corrosion and have retained their original polished finish. The luminous material on the markers and hands is the original, and remains a clean bright white with no visible color. The chronograph hands are a glossy bright red with no chipping or paint loss, and the inner bezel is a rich, vivid yellow with no fading from UV exposure. The case is unpolished and the original finishes and corners are razor sharp. The outer tachymetric bezel in metallic red and blue has almost no visible wear or fade. It comes attached to the original Stelux “Fishbone” bracelet with its original end links and clasp. Post service, the 6139B is keeping near perfect time, and the chronograph functions are crisp and responsive. Aside from a replacement crystal and crown, it’s completely original, and a remarkable opportunity to own a watch that has reached near “grail” status among enthusiasts. If you’ve been patiently waiting for the right example, that wait is officially over.
