1978 Seiko 6139-8028 Automatic Chronograph “Rally” (Near NOS, Box, Case Back Sticker)
1978 Seiko 6139-8028 Automatic Chronograph “Rally” (Near NOS, Box, Case Back Sticker)
Most of the 6139 lineup features sports driven and racing styled chronographs, however, there were a few casual pieces that were no doubt memorable, and if you can find the right example, “must haves” for any true collector. This 8028 from May of ‘78 is exactly that, and marks the first opportunity we’ve had to offer this reference in near NOS (New Old Stock) condition. It is completely original and absolutely immaculate. The blue case back sticker from production is still in place, and it ships with the inner hard shell Seiko box. The case features classic 1970’s styling with rolled hooded lugs, and a deep “east to west” brush finish along the top. Without a bezel, the domed acrylic is set directly into the case and gives way to a flawless flat silver sunburst, tri-color dial. The minute register is a rich charcoal gray, and the lengthy hour markers are separated by an azure blue block minute track. The hour and minute hands are stand outs in black and white, and the chronograph hands are a fiery blaze orange. The day and date are framed in black, and the original luminous plots are bright white and free of degradation or color. Attached is the original tapered “Rally” bracelet with a large port in the middle of each of the first three links on either side. Despite it’s unbelievable condition, there is no doubting its pure 1970’s pedigree. The 6139B behind the dial is just as impressive, and post service is keeping near perfect time. The chronograph functions are crisp and responsive, and on the wrist, it feels just as good as it looks. If this one’s on your list, it truly doesn’t get any better than this.
