1966 JDM Seiko 6206-8130 “Seikomatic” Weekdater
1966 JDM Seiko 6206-8130 “Seikomatic” Weekdater
Seiko's "Weekdater" line up from the 1960's offer some of the cleanest layouts and appealing designs to come out of era. Mid-century modernity and minimalism that's just as relevant today as it was when they were introduced more than 50 years ago. This 8130 from October of '66 is no exception... A scarcely seen JDM variant, it features the full Kanji days of the week in a framed aperture above the six o'clock marker. Other than the applied Seiko logo, there are only two lines of text gracing the lacquer finished, silvery sunburst dial. The the applied markers are machine finished and beveled through the center, and the broad dauphine hands are crisp and perfectly proportioned. The case sports a thick polished bezel, and lugs and profile are stocky with sharp corners and crisp angles. Incredibly well preserved, the “Dolphin” insignia is still clearly visible on the screw down case back, along with the other defining markings. It is as dependable as it is versatile, and opportunities to own one are quickly diminishing as they are in extremely high demand.
