1967 JDM Seiko 4006-7000 Bell-Matic 27j Automatic

1967 JDM Seiko 4006-7000 Bell-Matic 27j Automatic

$475.00

The first Bell-Matics were released to the public in 1966, and were at that time the very first automatic wrist alarm watches with a central rotor. Seiko continued production of the line for another 12 years with a wide array of styles ranging from colorful casuals, to refined classics. This example from September of ‘67 is a clean casual with great lines and classic versatility. The dial is a silvery white sunburst with a glossy lacquer finish and polished applied markers with black striping. At more than a half century old, the dial has aged remarkably well with only a single blemish between the center and the day/date window. The broad dauphine hands are polished and striped to match. The alarm bezel is polished and fluted with a red cursor that’s easy to see and perfectly aligned. The case is unpolished with crisp corners and the factory finishes still clearly intact. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the bell has a strong, audible ring. The date can be quickset by pressing the alarm toggle button, and the day can be semi quickset. Post service, the 4006 is keeping excellent time, and the alarm functions are smooth and easy to set. We’ve paired it with a smooth tan leather that showcases the dial, and provides a comfortable fit and finish. A rare and early JDM variant, it’s a great piece of Seiko history, and worthy addition to any collection.
