Seiko’s earliest sport divers were textbook tool watches that typically featured a clean layout with an almost military appearance, but as with most rules, there’s always an exception. The “Chevron” is like nothing else. It’s an undeniable diver with color, character, and serious clout among collectors.   This example from February of ‘69 is a bright spot in an otherwise (mostly) monochromatic line up. It would have been among the very first to roll off the production line as well. It's dial and case back carry the "proof" designation used prior to 1970, and considering its age, it's in incredible condition. The case is a contoured tonneau with sharp corners and its factory finishes still mostly visible. It's fitted with a rotating outer bezel and a count up insert with only light signs of wear. Beneath it, a stunning cobalt blue dial with a sunburst finish, and thick lacquer top. So named for its distinct hour markers, each is a large split chevron of luminous material, with the exception of the 12, 6, and 9 which have squared corners. A warm cream patina has developed throughout that only enhances the contrast against the dial, and framing it all is a baby blue blocked minute track with silver hour markers between. Though the dial is not perfect, and a few blemishes can be seen from certain angles, it is truly amazing, and an instant conversation starter. The 6106B features hacking seconds and a quick set function for the date. The day can be semi-quick set. It’s keeping near perfect time post service, is unpolished, and completely original aside from a replacement crystal.
