1968 Seiko 5126-8110 “5” Automatic Day/Date
1968 Seiko 5126-8110 “5” Automatic Day/Date
From Seiko’s Daini division, this 5126-8110 from November of 1968 adds a touch of flair to a mid century classic that ends in a combination that’s nothing short of perfect. The dial is a bright silver sunburst with a glossy lacquer finish met with applied beveled markers, polished to a mirror finish. Each marker has been drilled through to create a perfect circular window to the dial. That motif is repeated on the minute track. Each minute is represented by a crisp circle created by the absence of ink on a printed black ring. A simple concept, but one that takes a great watch to the next level. The dial layout combined with the “Grammar of Design” case architecture makes this piece better experienced than described. Driving the hands is the Daini 5126. A buttery smooth automatic that foregoes the “magic lever” winding system in favor of a reverser wheel design that’s very efficient, and a very reliable timekeeper. Post service its keeping near perfect time, and is ready to provide many more years of dependable service. The case is unpolished, and it’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal. We’ve paired it with a cognac leather strap with black stitching that adds a comfortable and sophisticated finish. If you’re in the market for a vintage affordable thats sure to turn heads, this one will not disappoint.
