1969 Seiko 6106-8100 70m Sport Diver “Proof”

1969 Seiko 6106-8100 70m Sport Diver “Proof”

Seiko's first sport divers are a classic representation of the tool watch. Understated and minimalist with a militaristic finish. To the hard core collector, they are sought after relics of Seiko history to be appreciated for their simplicity and rarity. Only produced for a few years, acquiring your own can prove quite the challenge. This example from July of ‘69 is easily the nicest I’ve ever offered. It's dial and case back carry the "proof" designation used prior to 1970, and nearing the half-century mark, it's in near mint condition. The case is a contoured tonneau that's unpolished with sharp corners and its factory finishes remain crisp. It's fitted with a rotating outer bezel and a count up insert with only the slightest signs of wear. Beneath it is a nearly perfect charcoal gray dial in a sunburst pattern and lacquer finish. The markers are applied and the luminous material has a slight but even patina. The polished hands are free of corrosion or wear, and the luminous is perfect. The 6106B features hacking seconds and a quick set function for the date. The day can be semi-quick set. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and the first we’ve had that’s still attached to the original “railroad” link bracelet. This one has to be seen in person to truly be appreciated, and we’re betting it will be a highlight in any collection.
