1975 Seiko 6139-7100 Automatic Chronograph “Helmet/ Storm Trooper"
1975 Seiko 6139-7100 Automatic Chronograph “Helmet/ Storm Trooper"
The “Dark Side” of vintage Seiko chronographs is represented by two variants of the same model, the 6139-7100. One features a black dial with yellow, gold, and green trim, and a case architecture that somewhat resembles the helmet of it’s namesake, “Darth Vader.” Its counterpart gets its own Lucasian moniker reflecting its stark white layout with black trim, but unlike its associates, this “Storm Trooper” from October of ‘75 doesn’t miss. The dial is perfect in matte white, and at it's edge is the matte silver tachymetric chapter that's steeply set, and offers tremendous depth. The hour and minute hands are polished stainless steel split with glossy black and are easily legible at a glance and the chronograph hands are a slick lacquered black and free of any chipping or paint loss. The beveled mineral crystal plays perfectly with the overall angular appearance, and seamlessly blends into the conical bezel. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal and post service, is keeping near perfect time. The chronograph functions are flawless with responsive pushers and a snappy reset. We’ve paired it with a an olive paratrooper strap that works beautifully with the dial and offers incredible comfort on the wrist. It’s nickname aside, this is vintage track styling at its finest, and a racing chronograph that would be a fast favorite in any collection.
