1967 Seiko 7619-9010 Automatic “5 Sportsmatic Deluxe”
1967 Seiko 7619-9010 Automatic “5 Sportsmatic Deluxe”
At the top of the Sportsmatic line, Seiko’s “Deluxe” models offered an elevated “5” with sophistication and classic mid-century design. This example from January of 1967 is packed with detail, nuance, and style. The dial is a perfect silver sunburst with subtle graining and a matte lacquered finish. In contrast, the applied markers are a standout with a polished finish highlighting the sharp beveling and split center. The hour and minute hands are broad and beveled dauphines with a mirror finish, and a long a lean sweep glides through the recessed minute chapter. The day and date sit beneath a framed window at three, and the date can be quick set via a signature feature of the 7619 “Deluxe” models. Advancing the date is achieved by pressing a pusher on the side of the case above the crown. The case architecture is clean and classic with sloping tapered lugs, and sharp beveling at the upper corners. It’s topped with a low profile, beveled bezel with a bright polished finish. The etched case back has almost no visible wear, and all of the original markings are still clearly intact, with the dolphin motif at center denoting its water resistance. I have applied a static cling protector to the case back to preserve the delicate finish. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and post service is keeping near perfect time. It features a hack lever for time setting to the second, and the quickset pusher operates as it should. It comes attached to the original three link bracelet with integrated end links, and the original “Seiko 5” engraved clasp. If classic mid-century dress has been on your list, this absolute stunner should be on your wrist.
