1968 Seiko 6119-8121 Automatic “5 Sports” 70m Diver

1968 Seiko 6119-8121 Automatic “5 Sports” 70m Diver

$495.00

Seiko's earliest sport divers are the quintessential tool watch featuring understated and minimalist layouts with a militaristic edge, and bulletproof construction. To the hard core collector, they are sought after relics of Seiko history to be appreciated for their simplicity and reliability. Only in production for a few short years, complete examples in top condition are in short supply. This one in bold blue from November of 1968 is easily the cleanest example that you, or I, or anyone else will ever see. The case is a contoured tonneau that's unpolished with razor sharp corners, and its factory finishes are virtually flawless. It's fitted with a “coin edge,” friction style bezel that rotates smoothly in either direction. The “count up” insert in metallic royal blue is perfect, with no chipping or fading. Beneath the bezel is a deep, high polished rehaut that gives way to inky matte cobalt blue dial with a glossy lacquer finish and applied luminous indexes. The hour and minute hands are lean, beveled batons, and a bright red “lollipop” sweep nearly drags the minute track. They have retained their bright polished finish with no visible oxidation. A polished frame surrounds the shared day/date window at three, and the date can be quick set via the crown. The day can be semi-quick set. It’s completely original aside from a replacement mineral crystal and post service, is keeping near perfect time. We’ve paired it with a “Tropic Sport” style strap for a period fit and finish that’s comfortable on any wrist. Stripped down function in bold color form, this one is sure to be the lead in any lineup.
