1984 Seiko 6309-7049 150m "Turtle"
1984 Seiko 6309-7049 150m "Turtle"
As Seiko's top selling diver to date, the "Turtle" has rightfully earned it's spot at the top of many a collector's list. It's as historically significant as it is well built, and once in hand, lives up to and beyond the hype. The 44mm case is well designed through symmetry and contours designed for comfort, even at it's expansive size. The bezel insert sits at a slightly concave angle protecting its painted finish, and seems to sit miles above the deep set, matte black dial. The large plots are all to familiar, and are perfectly proportioned against the broad hour and minute hands. The "lollipop" second hand adds a perfect finish at it sweeps smoothly around the dial. This example from January of '84 is beautifully preserved with only minor wear to the bezel insert, and blemish free dial and hands. The case is crisp, with the crown smoothly tightening against it. In keeping with it's militaristic edge, we've paired it with a heavy two-piece, olive green NATO with PVD hardware.
